Searching for information?

Postby jbrown007 on Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:33 pm

Unfortunately I do not have a secret roster with everyone's name that was ever a part of the 34th Division. But I will be happy to find out as much about a person as I can. I figure the more I learn about members of the 34th, the more I learn about my grandfather's experiences in World War II.

There are a couple of things that can help in searching for information:

1. The full name of the person
2. The hometown of the person when they enlisted
3. The unit the person served with (regiment, company, etc.)
4. Anything that you already know (records, awards, stories, places, etc)

I can't guarantee finding any answers to your questions, but you never know.

I'm just starting to research my Grandfather's history. For whatever reason, no one in our family has ever done any research, and I'm pretty much starting from scratch. What I do know is that my Grandfather, Orville Lehman Cook was from Competition, MO. He served with the 34th under Lt. General Mark Clark, I believe. I do know that he was wounded, and received a purple heart. He spent time in Italy and Germany. He was a Rifleman. Since my Pa's passing .... I do have several photos and a few letters he wrote & received. Any direction that anyone could please give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Go to the website "DADS WAR" it will give you a ton of ideas on how to research. The forum would not let me patse the URL, so you will have to "GOGGLE" to find the website.
